Light Heavyweight bout: Roger Gracie vs. Kevin Randleman
Prediction: Roger Gracie via second round submission.
Gracie vs Randleman Odds: Currently -500 / +300
In the second bout of the evening, former UFC Heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman will face one of the world’s most prolific submission grapplers in Roger Gracie. Gracie has never had a fight against a legitimate opponent his own size, so this will be a big test, but Randleman is not the same fighter he used to be.
Kevin Randleman, at one point, was one of the most explosive and athletic fighters in the world. He has lost a step since then due to injuries and repeated battles with staph infections, but he is still a dangerous wrestler with knockout power in both hands. His skill set is fairly one dimensional, with porous submission defense, but what he does he does very well.
Roger Gracie is also a pretty one dimensional fighter, but that one dimension, his jiu-jitsu, is absolutely insane. One of the most successful no-gi grapplers ever, he has easily submitted both of his opponents so far in mixed martial arts.
In a lot of ways, Randleman is a great opponent for Gracie. He has the power to knock Gracie out, but not a lot of boxixng technique. Randleman’s best work is done with takedowns and top control, but on top of a guy like Gracie his porous submission defense is going to cost him the fight. Expect Gracie to submit Randleman, one way or the other.
Prediction: Roger Gracie via second round submission.
