Conor McGregor has recently caused a lot of controversy and speculation thanks to his unsolicited tweet where he tweeted out that he was retiring young and thanked everyone for the “cheese”. People were not sure how to react to this as they did not know whether McGregor was being serious or not. There has been a lot of progress since that tweet but nothing is confirmed yet as to whether or not Conor McGregor will compete in UFC fight night 200 or not.
Since the retirement out of the blue tweet, Conor McGregor tweeted again on Sunday night saying that he was going to fight in the UFC fight night 200. The tweet was as quoted – “Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200! Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect”. However, this tweet was shot down by none other than UFC president Dana White himself who said that the fight was still off, and McGregor’s tweet was simply not true.
On the other hand, Conor McGregor’s coach Kavanagh did not shy away from commenting either and said that he was unsure as to why the UFC wouldn’t just let McGregor compete in UFC fight night 200. He said he believed that there was still a 51% chance that McGregor would indeed be given the green light and allowed to fight in UFC fight night 200.
While the UFC are usually pretty strict when it comes to fighters attending pre match press conferences and being an integral part of the marketing campaign, Kavanagh felt that Conor McGregor could definitely be an exception considering he was the biggest attraction in terms of pay per views as it is and the campaign to further promote the fight was really unnecessary. Furthermore, Conor MCGregor vs Nate Diaz rematch itself was a spectacle no one would want to miss and it was a given that the fight would pretty much sell itself.
Whether the rematch will actually happen or not? We will just have to wait and see.
