Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida
The main event of the evening sees former Ultimate Fighter winner Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez continue his quest for a shot at the Lightweight title, as he squares off with dynamic wrestler Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. Sanchez -270 / Guida +210 Odds
After back to back losses at Welterweight, Sanchez dropped to 155, and has thusfar looked extremely impressive at his more natural weight, so Guida is going to have his hands full here.
Clay Guida, best known for the huge mop of hair on his head (and for being accused by opponents of greasing said hair), is an extremely aggressive wrestler with an underrated submission attack who, for whatever reason, seems incapable of finishing a fight since his UFC debut. In his last fight, he was gifted a split decision win against Nate Diaz in a fight he clearly lost. Despite his problems finishing, though, Guida’s wrestling, aggression, and top control are difficult to deal with.
If anyone can handle it, though, it’s the equally-aggressive and vastly more talented Diego Sanchez. While the two men are probably roughly equal in terms of wrestling, Sanchez has better standup, better submissions, more top-level experience, more size and strength, and better training camps. Not to detract from Guida, who is a great fighter with a long future at 155, but I don’t see any way he can beat Diego at this point.
I expect Diego to dominate this one in the standup and frustrate Guida by stuffing his takedown attempts. After wearing Guida down for a while, Diego should be able to take this one down, TKOing Guida in the third with hard ground and pound.
