Live on Saturday August 15, 2009 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Strikeforce has put together the biggest women’s MMA fight to date and first ever women’s Main Event. The face of women’s MMA, undefeated Gina “Conviction” Carano (7-0) will take on Brazilian Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (7-1) for the 145 lbs Strikeforce title. Next we have a lightweight title fight between Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-5-1) vs. Gilbert Melendez (15-2), this fight is a rematch with the first fight ending in Ishida’s favor via unanimous decision back in December 2007. Also we have the fight between Renato “Babalu” Sobral (35-8) vs. Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) that was supposed to take place at Affliction ” Trilogy”. I’m glad this fight was not wasted away as it is sure to be memorable. Nick Diaz will no longer fight Jay Hieron (17-4) and Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (13-3) will step in to take his place.
