Brian Stann (6-1) vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (16-8-1)
In one of the three competitive lightweight bouts scheduled for the night, WEC veteran Brian “All American” Stann will face off with recent Ultimate Fighter cast member and IFL veteran Krzysztof “The PolishExperiment” Soszynski. Soszynski -150 / Stann +120 current odds
Stann looked great in WEC before suffering a revenge knockout to Steve Cantwell in his last fight. Soszynski was considered a leading candidate to win the last season of The Ultimate Fighter, but failed to live up to the billing. As a result, both men enter this fight with a lot to prove.
Stann, primarily a boxer with dynamite in his hands, has left a long line of knocked out opponents behind him. None of his first six fights, all knockout wins, even made it past the first frame. In his last outing, though, he suffered his first setback, a second round knockout loss to Steve Cantwell, who he had previously defeated. Shortly after, WEC closed the door on all of its heavier weight classes, throwing Stann out of the frying pan and into the fire.
His first test in the big show is no small matter. IFL veteran Krzysztof Soszynski is a dangerous fighter with solid standup and an excellent submission attack. Despite a rocky start to his career, with wildly mixed results, Soszynski really came into his own. Stylistically, this is a great matchup for him. There is no question that Stann is going to want to box, and his takedown defense has not been significantly tested. With success so crucial, I think “The Polish Expirement” will go with what he knows and try to take down Stann and submit him.
Soszynski should have no problem executing his gameplan. Stann is clearly dangerous, but Soszynski has a massive advantage in experience and his submissions are too good for a guy like Stann to avoid.
Soszynski by guillotine choke, round 1.
